There are a number of challenges to learning astral projection. The first step is to realize that this is something that all of us have the ability to do. This isn't something which has to be forced; it's a capacity which all of us already possess, much like riding a bike. You never forget how to do these things; you just need to keep in practice. The biggest problem which many face as they learn astral projecting is learning to relax fully. To astral project, you have to be able to totally relax your body and your mind. There are a lot of different ways which you can relax. These methods include muscle relaxation and breathing techniques.

Naturally though if the environment is not conducive to promoting a relaxed environment then your astral projection session is not going to go as smoothly or be as successful as you would like it to be. Here are a number of tips that you can follow to help get the most out of your preparation.

*Make sure that you are not wearing jewelry or other items that are in contact with your skin. (Clothes are acceptable, but removing very tight clothing sometimes helps).

*Make sure that the room you are going to relax in and practice your astral projecting is dark. Dark enough so that light can not be seen through your eyelids, but you shouldnt turn off all the lights.

*Lay down with your body pointed north to south. Your head should be pointed north. You can orient yourself by using the sun as your guide (since it sets in the west and rises in the east).

*Make sure that the clothing you are wearing is loose and comfortable. You want to be covered so that you are warmer the you normally are but you dont want to be hot.

*Make sure that you have a place which is quiet and where you will not be distracted as you practice your astral projecting.

*It is time to enter a state of relaxation, (this is where you want to practice your relaxation techniques.)

*Begin by giving yourself some suggestions which will help you remember what happens as you astral project. You may want to keep a pen and some paper close at hand so that you can take notes on your astral projection as soon as you finish. Be sure to tell yourself before you begin I will remember. Do this at least five times.

*Start using your breathing techniques and feel yourself starting to relax.

*As you are breathing focus on the blackness in front of you.

*Next, concentrate on a point about one foot away from your forehead. Once you manage to do this, switch your focus to a point about six feet away.

*Now you want to make a 90 degree angle that goes from your six foot away focus up so that you are drawing an imaginary line that runs parallel to you body.

To prepare yourself for astral projecting, just follow these simple. It is important that we note that you also have to have mental control of what you are going to do. You dont want your astral body to just go out and bounce through the astral planes with no direction. You can go anywhere, do anything so it is important that you have direction.

Those who are well practiced at astral projecting have reported being able to perform feats which their physical bodies would be unable to do and even speaking with departed loved ones. Remember, astral projection is something you have done before. You know those dreams where you wake up and remember everything vividly? Those were actually astral travels. With practice, you can astral project at will and gain many benefits.
